Petts Wood Business Association AGM- 12th March 2009
On the 12th March the Business Association held its 4th AGM at the Memorial Hall Towncourt Room on Petts Wood Road. Around twenty local businesses attended as well as local councillors Simon Fawthrop, Doug Auld and Tony Owen.
The committee reported on progress that had been made throughout the year including examples of successful events like the May Fayre and Christmas lights. It was noted how successful the introduction of CCTV had been in further lowering the amount of crime in the town centre and Cllr Auld and PS John Kemp also commented that this could be made even better with the introduction of a Safer Shop radio scheme.
Petts Wood is not immune to the economic downturn that has afflicted the whole planet and the disappearance of Woolworths has meant that Queensway has suffered in particular. Anthony Smith of Sports retail shop Jolly Good Sports described his idea of a Petts Wood Business loyalty scheme to encourage shoppers to the town centre. A big PR event with coverage from the Newsshopper, bright colourful loyalty cards, a special appearance from local celebrities (Hale and Pace are close personal friends of Anthony) could see "Petts Wood PLC" placed firmly on the map and a great destination for local shoppers who might otherwise jump in the car to Bromley or Bluewater. If you are a local business and would like to be involved in the discount scheme then email us here.
This helped ensure that the meeting ended on a positive note despite the gloom. For a full report of the AGM you download the pdf version using the link.
